Well, I just finished a few Tom Clancy audio books!

-The Hunt for Red October
-Patriot Games

Obviously, both books were better than the movies!  (and I thought the movies were damn good!)  I really liked Patriot Games the most though...the ending was very satisfying!

Clancy wrote Hunt for Red October first...and then went back to write Patriot Games as a prequel.  If I were you, i'd read (or listen to) Hunt for Red October first...although, I guess it really doesn't matter.  They're both good stand alone stories.

I had a friend who used to be in the Navy and he was on submarines. I remember him telling me how inaccurate the movie was. Don't know why I brought that up.

As far as audio books are concerned. Ummm, I have "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith." Not only does it have a stupidly long title, but it sucks.  :rotfl:

I'm right now listening to a book called Cloudburst by Ryne Douglas Pearson.  Stunning prequel to the terrorist activities we've seen in the past several years, and read by the greatest voice in the business, Frank Muller.  I heartily recommend it!

Definately unabridged (I can't stand abridged books!  yuck!)  Of course, my second job allows for lots of listening time...which, I suppose, the majority of people don't have!  *smile*

Reader: Micheal Pritchard

Pritchard is a pretty good reader...nice, clear, good paced...although, his British accent could use some work *hahahaha*.

I feel a bit deprived. I know you all think us Aussies are kinda backward but I have never listened to an audio book - not from want of trying. Every library I go to has a very poor selection and they're hideously expensive.

I hear ya about the price...there's no way I could afford to listen to many books if I had to pay for them.  I guess I'm just lucky...my library has a very large selection and I can actually request for them to purchase a particular one if I wanted to.  (I haven't done that yet though...but it's an option...at least, that's what it says in the library information document).

Here are a few of my favorites (off the top of my head):  

-Off Armegeddon Reef by David Weber
--I don't know exactly why I liked this book so much...but I really do!  It's a great mix of science fiction and mideval fantasy...and ends good...with a potential for more!

-To the Last Man by Jeff Shaara
--This book was awesome!  A real historic novel...well written and placed in WWI...totally awesome if you're into that kind of stuff.  There aren't a lot of good audio books covering WWI...this is the best one I've come across.

Just finished:

-The Rising Tide by Jeff Shaara.
--Very good historic account of the first part of WWII...namely, the campaign in North Africa and Italy.  This guy knows how to write historic fact in a very gripping and entertaining way.  And the reader is very good too...with great British and German accents.  Personally, I really like Jeff Shaara's work...all of the books i've listened to by him have been very good.  (To the Last Man and The Death Angles...both historic war novels)

I just started a book called 'Code to Zero'.  Pretty gripping so far...seems like a Bourne Identity/Spy type book.  I'll keep you posted!

Just finished:

-Code to Zero by Ken Follett.
--This book was awesome!  Right up my alley too!  It's set in the space race era and it's a real fun suspense thriller.  The main guy wakes up as a bum with amnesia...and he has to use his brain and a plethora of unknown abilities to figure out who he is, what's going on, and why he has amnesia.  All the while America's last chance to keep up with Russia in the space race is dwindling down.  Unbeknownst to him, the main character holds the key to the United State's success or dismal failure.

Next up: 'Air Battle Force' by Dale Brown.  I've listened to a book titled 'Strike Force' by this same author...it was really good.  So far this one is not disappointing me...I'll keep you posted!

Just finished:

-Code to Zero by Ken Follett.

Wasn't crazy about Code to Zero, for some reason.  It just never really took off for me.  Guidall was wonderful reading it, but the story just kind of dragged.

When I pull this book up on my Library website it tells me that there are two available copies.  One read by Guidall and the other read by Frank Muller.  You know Frank is incredible...I wonder if that is the Abridged version...or what?

Just finished:

-Air Battle Force by Dale Brown.
--This one was pretty good...for a futuristic fiction novel on the Air Force.  I really don't like books that leave you hanging, though.  I mean, the ending was satifying...but man, if that one main bad guy coulda been roasted I would've been real happy!  *smile*  But, I guess that'll make the next books better.  Anyway, the book started out real fun and fast...slowed down badly in the middle...and then picked back up towards the end.  The main characters are fun with human flaws...and not everyone lives.  I didn't love it...but I don't think it was a waste of time either.

Next up, The Razor's Edge, by Somerset Maugham...
