So, the latest from the world of Doctor Who...
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:36:33 AM »
First.  I don't believe this.  I think someone, somewhere is either dabbling in hoax-y stuff or has let wish-fantasy get the better of them.

Second.  I think it's not - not! - a very good idea.  Not a very good idea at all.

But someone posted something on a "publication" site to the effect that Johnny Depp will play the Doctor in a feature film to be released in 2012.

I have nothing against Depp.  The man is a good actor and has an impressive body of work.  He's a little odd, a little strange and in danger of becoming a caricature but maybe, in the right hands, that could be channeled into something Doctor-ish.

No, my issue is with the proposed story line wherein the Doctor is something like a real (wait for it) doctor, and he will be
Quote
on a journey through time and space with a crew of volunteers treating humanity’s illnesses brought on by invading aliens. He cures the bubonic plague and then goes to Africa to fight Ebola.

And there just isn't enough time in the day for me to list the many, many reasons that is all wrong.

So, anyway, Point the First - believe it's a hoax.  Or hoax-y kind of thing.  Point the Second, don't like the idea.

I'll rant more later, maybe.  Yeah, the obsession is rearing its ugly head.

I'm sorry, guys.  Really, really, I am.  This season will be over in a few more weeks and I'll be back to normal, somewhat...
The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

Does it have Tim Burton attached as the director? If so look at the Planet of the Apes so see how little he cares for the source material. lol
I could have been a contender.
If there is a 50/50 chance you'll get right there is a 90% chance you get it wrong.

IMDB has nothing on it at all.  The only other name associated with this, er, project is Russell T Davies, the man responsible for the reboot through the David Tennant years.  (Steven Moffat took it over when Tennant departed the series.)

And, yes, I'm pretty much over the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp alliance.  In fact, I'm pretty much over Tim Burton.  He's sort of turned into a one-trick pony, in my opinion.  :P
