So here is a question about Ishamael/Moridin
« on: August 11, 2008, 09:43:56 AM »
So this weekend I read a Wiki page on Ishamael for my post. In the Wiki post it looks like somebody put there pet theory in it. Remember when Rand was chasing Sammuel through Shadar Logoth and his Bale Fire crossed with Moridin's? Well the theory was because of this crossing somehow Rand and Moridin get bonded. Thus read getting sick while channeling isn't from the taint but from Moridin's constant channeling of the True Power.

What do you think? Bunk, or not bunk?

I say it is bunk, mainly because the sickness didn't occur until after Saidin was cleansed.

The Wiki post also claims that the True Power is possibly more powerful then the One Power. I think that is probably bunk as well.
I could have been a contender.
If there is a 50/50 chance you'll get right there is a 90% chance you get it wrong.

The crossing Balefire streams did have an immediate effect (as I recall, it did a bunch of random stuff), but I doubt it has to do with the stuff happening to him way later. Sounds like bunk to me.

As for True Power being stronger than the One Power, I think that's outright stated, if not implied, in the books.

As I just finished ACoS and started APoD, it's pretty clear in my mind.

Rand DOES feel sick, but I don't think it's simply from the crossing of the balefire streams, I believe it also stemmed from the Bowl of the Winds and Saidin being in the air.
I believe the world is burning to the ground.

as i recall rand had been sicking up long before much of this. but as for the connection between rand and moridin, it is stated in TGS that moridin now sicks up when he seizes the power. and i dont think its from the taint because the other asha'man dont sick up when they seize the power.

Bunk.

I don't see how bonding could ever occur accidentally, since it's such a specific weave.

It does raise a question for me, though...in the books, is it ever described what balefire is actually woven from, i.e. fire, spirit, etc.? Bonding, as I recall, is a weave of pure spirit.

Though I may be wrong! :P
