Transformers Revenge the Fallen
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:25:16 AM »
I think I'll say right up front I thought the movie was alright, not great but alright. Not sure if it was worth the money to see it at the theater though. Now on to my other opinions.

Michael Bay should move on from movies and do what he seems to really love, and that is commercials. Outside of this movie being made from a Toy Line, he can't seem to stop the salesman ship there. Sideswipe, or was is Sunstreaker? Can't remember since he was barely in the movie. He was supposed to be a Lamborghini, like he was in the cartoon. Cool. Instead Bay changes him to the Corvette concept because GM wants him to. Then because GM wants to create interest in a new car Bay creates a new transformer called Volt. It didn't exist before the movie started so he writes the new transformer into the movie while shooting. It's the new Chevy Volt, GM's electric cart. Not cool. Of course after that there is a ton of loving shots of products, like Cysco, through out the movie.

When you hear a environmentalist talking about recycling, I don't think they means what Michael Bay thinks they do. Recycled locations, check! Recycled Transformers models, check! I am also pretty sure he recycled the shots of the carrier from Perl Harbor, I know he reused it in the first movie.

This movie centers on Sam Witwicky (thumbs WAY down), Optimus Prime (thumbs up, though he does disappear for a time) and Bumble Bee (never was one of my favorites but still a thumbs up). The movie has a very chaotic story, it really feels as if it was written by a 5 year old on acid. That is if you can even notice one. The new Transformers added to the movie they were hyping play no real role in the story at all. The only new transformers to play a role are The Twins, and they are annoying. Personally  I would call racially insensitive instead of racist, but I have no doubt the idiocy on display with a caricature of inner city black men as it's basis and I think more then a few people were offended. Most of the new Transformers just show up at the beginning of the movie to chaise down a couple of nameless Decepticons and then they play small role at the end. On the Decepticons side outside of Megatron or maybe even less so Starscream and Soundwave play a little role in the movie. Even the big new bad guy doesn't even merit much of a role. He just shows up once before the end, and then appears so Optimus Prime can kick his ass.

If you were a big fan of Devastator or Jetfire, let's just say you're not going to be happy.

On the up side, Optimus Prime kicks way more ass in this movie.

I could have been a contender.

Ok, so...in my opinion...this Transformers was WAY better than the first one!  Action and crazy transformation scenes was what I came into see...and that's exactly what I got.  Plus some bonus shots of Megan Fox making near-love to a motorcycle...woah!

I was a huge Transformer fan back in the cartoon day...and so I thought I'd be more of a hardliner when it came to the different bots and who they are and what they stood for...and the roles they play.  But, in the end, all that really doesn't matter...as long as they transform in a cool way and show off some slick moves, it's all good!

I have to agree the story line is weak...but, so was the cartoon...and let's be honest, it's all unrealistic.  I went in with an open mind and I was duely rewarded.  Although, I kinda wish humans could play a bit more of a role in things.  Like maybe in the years since the first movie they would've developed some cool new weapons that would actually work agains the bots!  Instead of carrying around usless M-16s...they could have some cutting edge plasma gun thingy or something cool like that.  hahaha...

...maybe in the next movie, huh?

The only real complaint I had about the movie was that the end was incredibly rushed it seemed.

Starting with Optimus being revived. Got it, he's back, what? He got his ass kicked again already?

Then they included the combine transform, which was great again... and then he destroys Megatron in fifteen seconds, and the Fallen in 45 seconds? Not a great fight scene. The end of the first one was much better.

I did like them throwing a Rail Gun in there, one of the coolest modern weapons, great to see it in action (though to a much smaller scale), would've loved to have seen it used two or three times to take down the behemoth Transformer.
I believe the world is burning to the ground.

If you would have peace, prepare for war.

I wouldn't call that Optimus getting his butt kicked after being revived. Considering he was still badly damaged from his fight with Megatron, Starscream and the unnamed helicopter dude recycled from the first movie. He just couldn't move, there was no fight that I remember. Just the Fallen swooping down and basically saying "Got it!"

Here is one of my huge problems with the ending. You had the douche nozzle from the Dept. of Defense threatening the Autobots throughout the movie, even complaining that they aren't sharing their advanced weapons tech. Even going so far as to threaten to kick the Autobots off the planet, with Optimus replying with a "If we go who will protect you?" type line. Then the end of the movie comes and the majority the Decepticons get their ass kicked by the US Navy. Who needs Autobots when we can take the Decepticons out with F-18s, and their most powerful bots with rail guns? Which in the movie I basically implied to be on any Destroyer.
I could have been a contender.
