...and saw someone's post that David Eddings had died.

Such an entertaining, imaginative, prolific writer!

How sad...

"What was that?" Belgarath asked, coming back around the corner.

"Brill," Silk replied blandly, pulling his Murgo robe back on.

"Again?" Belgarath demanded with exasperation. "What was he doing this time?"

"Trying to fly, last time I saw him." Silk smirked.

The old man looked puzzled.

"He wasn't doing it very well," Silk added.

Belgarath shrugged. "Maybe it'll come to him in time."

"He doesn't really have all that much time." Silk glanced out over the edge.

From far below - terribly far below - there came a faint, muffled crash; then, after several seconds, another. "Does bouncing count?" Silk asked.

Belgarath made a wry face. "Not really."

"Then I'd say he didn't learn in time." Silk said blithely.

— David Eddings (Magician's Gambit)

The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

I found this article about his death:

I never read more than the Belgariad and the Malloreon but I really enjoyed them and still re-read from time to time.

Rest in Peace Mr. Eddings...

I only read the Belgariad, the Malloreon and Belgarath (or was it Polgara?). They were all fine books and I've always meant to read more of his books. It is sad that he is now dead. RIP. I didn't know his wife had died a couple of years ago, and had a debilitating stroke before that. May she RIP as well.
I could have been a contender.

This for me is a far more hurtful loss than that of our patron here at WoT.  Eddings was always for me the quintessence of the fantays genre, seamlessly blending humor, realistic characters and human foibles with the vast panorama of the epic fantasy.  The Belgariad and The Mallorean will always stand as some of the best fiction this reasonably well read individual ever...well, read.

Eddings was my first.  (first fantasy author) and you never forget your first.  Garion and Ce'nedra were cool, and Sparhawk was a badass. RIP Dave.
