The Art of Ambient - Part Three: Vidna Obmana
« on: August 09, 2007, 07:34:23 PM »
The Third in our series of exposes on Ambient Music deals with Vidna Obmana.

Belgian electronic musician Vidna Obmana is perhaps one of the field's most prolific and widely respected musicians.  The moniker Vidna Obmana was chosen by this Belgian composer for his musical persona as a means to subjucating his own personaility to that of the music itself (vidna obmana literally translates from the Belgian as 'optical illusion'.  Seventeen years hence, Vidna Obmana still finds this name allows him a sense of freedom to place his music first before his own personality and philosophy.

As a self-taught electronic musician, Vidna Obmana explored different musical realms before discovering the techniques of looping and shaping harmonies, merging layers of sound while minimizing the configurations to just a few notes. His style of atmospheric music creates almost trance-inducing states. Embracing the challenge to leap into unknown and uncharted terrain, Vidna Obmana has refined his minimalistic sound-sculpting while expanding the range of rhythms and performance on various acoustic instruments, like the fascinating Slovakian Fujara (and over-tone flute) and combining his array of electronic soundscapes with organic sounds and textures.

This weekend, I'm going to listen to all of this...
The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

I'm working on a way to create my own videos for these artists so I don't have to rely on YouTube for anything but hosting.  There's so many better pieces by this artist that I would love to be able to let everyone sample.

Kick ass!!  My very first home-made music video.  It's amazing what you can do with Roxio VideoWave 7, free lo-res video downloaded from the net and your favorite Vidna Obmana song.

I'm kind of psyched, I must say.
