It is still a good book, but you do end up missing that charismatic character a lot. This may be a learning experience for Sanderson, afterall this is only his 3rd published book, don' kill off your best character in the first book! If you do make sure you have someone to take their place, Vin doesn't cut it, nor did the addition Elend point of views.
I could have been a contender.

To throw in something not really related to the story itself:
I'm partly amused and partly irritated about Elend's name, since it's the german translation for "misery". Took me a while to accept it as a first name for anybody, especially if that person doesn't seem to fit it's usual meaning at all.

Brandon Sanderson posted the first chapter of The Hero of Ages, the third book in the series, on his website.

The book is to be released Oct. 14.
