Reading and movie list.
« on: February 12, 2008, 12:16:47 PM »
I was thinking we could start setting up books and movies we should all go out and read/watch so we can jump start some conversations in here.

My first choice for a book to read is

[amazonsearch]Mistborn 1: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson[/amazonsearch]

The hardcover is $10 including shipping from Amazon. I thought he would be the best choice since he'll be finishing Memory of Light.

What does everybody think? How often should we be adding new books to the list to read? How often should we add a movie? Let me know.

I could have been a contender.

Good idea.

And I've been planning to read something of Sanderson's.  Timing is perfect because I'll want something to read when I fly to Tampa in a couple of weeks.

As to how often... *has no idea*
The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

I like the idea, though the reality may be a little hard to come by.  Reading isn't something I get to do very often these days: most of my literary exposure comes by way of audiobook.  However, I'd be willing to give it a go.

I have to agree with Geoff...I'll have to go the route of audiobook...but I'm *more* than willing to jump on board otherwise.

I'll throw out a suggested for timing...

How about every other month...alternating topics.
This first month read and discuss Mistborn...next month we'll pick a Movie to discuss...the following month will be a book...then a movie...then a book...etc.

That'll give each topic plenty of exposure and everyone plenty of time to read/listen/watch it and join in.

Considering movies aren't quite the time investment I would think we could do those while having a book assigned, and more often.
I could have been a contender.

I tried find out if there is an audiobook version of it, didn't find anything. Sorry. :(

In the future we should keep that in mind for our time challenged friends.

Thought this was pretty relevant. Saw this on another site:

"If you head over to Tor and sign up for their mailing list, you'll also receive a link to get a free copy of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn. So for those of you that haven't had a chance to read Sanderson yet, this would seem to be a great way to introduce yourselves to his work before AMoL.

Enjoy!"

Good eye Parin, might have to jump in that.

If we're going to do movies on the other hand, I can jump in that. As for reading, I might be willing.

Parin is right. It is an ebook though, and you have to create an account at http://www.Tor.com but free is free.

Some bvooks are harder to come by than others around these parts, and ordering from Amazon or Powell's taks a lot of time and momney. So if the books are available in stores, I'll participate. if not... nu. I might even be able to kick Dylan into reading some of it.

Movies, same.

I'd love to still do it, but nobody, besides Aaron and I, participated in the first go around.
