Best Jordan Book?

Everyone has their favorite...what's yours and why?

For me, it's Fires of Heaven because it was the beginning of Rand's rise to Power, before he got so full of himself and the story got so incredibly botched with more characters than a Bayou dog's gots fleas.  Back then it was simple.  Maybe three of the Forsaken were involved, the Good Guys and Bad Guys still wore opposite colors and the story was still....well, fresh.

Everything since then....filler.

I still like The Eye of the World. It was before the entire series got tied up in its own complexities. It sucked me in to the series (unfortunately). I have grave doubts I'll ever read the remaining books - I can't even recall which one I was up to.

I agree with Trelise,

Eye of the World sucked me in and the Great Hunt carried on the tradition.

Everyone was together, fighting the good fight, you knew who the enemy was. It sucked me in and pulled me along and I chased and I followed.

Then....

I always go back and forth on this. My favorites have always been "The Fires of Heaven" or "The Lord of Chaos." Both books have the most action, the most plot advancement, and they are where Rand really starts come in as his own until the stress of being the Dragon start breaking him down.
I could have been a contender.

If I HAD to pick a favorite, I'd go with TDR. Because that's just a fun one where the reader knows a lot more than the characters, and I enjoy that omnipotence. :P

But it's closely followed by TSR, TFoH and LoC.

After that... Too many subplots for me to care about. :P

TDR has been my favorite ever since I first read it. Mat vs. Galad and Gawyn, 'nuff said. "Scouting and Discoveries" is my favorite chapter from the entire series.

But really, I think it's my favorite because the plot and timing are straightforward, and there is a lot of great character development that happens over the course of the story. In later books everything gets bogged down by the increasingly large cast of characters and huge numbers of plot threads, whereas in TDR there were essentially three: the three hunters, Mat's racing to save them, and Perrin and Moiraine et. al. chasing after Rand. It just flows very well as a story. In my opinion TDR and TSR are the height of the series.

So far. :P

Could've sworn I'd posted here...

Lord of Chaos is my favorite.
The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

Knife of Dreams or Heart of Winter, it's a toss-up between the two.

eye of the world...can't imagine starting it all other than with that book.:) it was great...

but i don't know how jordan could have avoided the subplots and all....as it led to an understanding of either one of the charcters or how events played out...

Well, I just got done with a re-read up to book 4, The Shadow Rising.

Right now...I think The Shadow Rising is topping the scales.  SOOOOO many important things happen in this book.  And not only that...but we get to experience almost all the main character's points of view.

Mat and his trips into the twisted doors...
Parrin and his journey back to save the Two Rivers...
Nyneave and her battle with Moghedien...
Elayne throwing herself at Rand and learning about windfinders...
Aviendia's emergence as a Wise woman...
Rand's trip to Rhudian (sp?)...marking as He who comes with the Dawn...mental battle with Lanfear...submission of Asmodian.

So far...it's my favorite...*smile*...so far!
