WoT to be finished by Brandon Sanderson
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:55:57 PM »
Harriet, RJ's wife, has chosen a relatively new author named Brandon Sanderson to finish A Memory of Light, and this was agreed to by TOR, as mentioned in the press release. Brandon Sanderson's blog talks about the news, and links to interviews and whatnot.

I've never heard of him before, so I have no idea if he can do it well. If we're lucky, maybe he can do it better.

Wow!  That is big news!
The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas...

I've never read anything by him but I have heard very good things about his books, Elantris and Mistborn. Hopefully will be a good choice.

Well hot damn.  I have no idea who this guy Sanderson is...and I don't want to know.  I'm just looking forward to the fact that RJ's story will be finished.  Perhaps not the way it was originally fated to be, but an ending none the less.

I'll have to read something by him before...

I wonder if there might be a chance that the other two prequels might see daylight, eventually.  I still want to know more about Tam's story.

Agreed on both counts.  I'm currently reading  Jim Butcher's Codex Alera books (The Dresden Files by him were GREAT)...as soon as I finish these I'll probably delve into Sandersons work.

I'm very excited about the series having an ending.  Mixed feelings as it'll be someone else doing it, but from the sounds of it, Sanderson will be telling RJ's story and I'm sure he was chosen carefully.

A nice bonus that it won't be out for 2 years....why you ask?  Good way to start the series over.  That is a whole lot of reading of things already read - but what a nice buildup to the ending.

Good, I am glad it will be finished.

The funny thing is I've seen Sanderson's books and have been meaning to try them and just haven't. Maybe this will be the extra push I need to read them.
I could have been a contender.

I still haven't started on Brandon Sanderson's books yet, but a couple of us did. You'll find a discussion about Mistborn on the General SciFi/Fantasy Discussion Board, including a link to Sanderson's homepage. From what I read here, and there as well, I'm confident that he's a good choice to finish the Wheel of Time.
I would also bet that RJ's wife (and editor) Harriet put a lot of time and effort into chosing the right person for this job... since she's been the one who picked Sanderson, and will also be working with him on it, I guess we can trust him to live up to this heritage. :)

I'm in that same boat...i haven't read any of Sanderson's work.  However, it *sounds* like Jordan left quite a bit of notes and unfinished scenes...so, in theroy, the finished work should have more of a Jordan flavor than Sanderson.

To me, it doesn't really matter...I've gotta beleive that Sanderson is going to give it his best shot...and Jordan's wife Harriet will be editing everything pretty close.  Regardless of that...it's the *story* itself that I'll be reading...not the writing style.  And the story is all Jordans...I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I'm hopeing the events in this last book live up to the hype...and the long road to get there.  Personally, I'm taking the cynical approach and assuming the ending is going to be something of a disappointment...as far as the *story* goes.  (you know, totally happy endings and such) So, if it all turns out swell with fireworks and kissing heroes...then great!  I'll be a humbled, happy, cynic.  But, if it turns out tarnished with a quasi-happy ending...then...that's ok too (thank you very much cynical mind).

If it turns out totally bad...then the entire series wasn't worth reading in the first place...(that's just my opinion)...and I'll sadly move on to something else.  Of course, we all know that won't happen...you don't write a story like this for bad endings.  That is...unless you're Stephen King and your writing the Dark Tower series!  (ugh, the more I think about that ending the more I don't like him! *smile*)

Anyway, however it ends...I've enjoyed the ride so far! And I hope to enjoy it for a long time to come!

*currently I'm doing a re-read myself...and I'm listening to audio-book verisons.  I'm on The Shadow Rising at the moment*

Aaron has read all his books, I believe Jacy has read a little bit and I have read his Mistborn books. He's pretty good and he's a fan of the series. He should be able to do the series justice. Hes also said he will reveal who killed Asmodean, so who can't love him for that? lol
I could have been a contender.

Jordan kept saying that he left enough clues to figure out Asmodean's killer...so, obviously I missed all the clues!  Cause I have *NO* idea! hahaha

That's one reason why i'm doing a re-read of the series.

As for Moirraine...I don't think she's dead (yet).  She's just trapped somewhere else...and Matt has to go save her...somehow...someway.  Maybe he'll knock off Lanfear in the process...what do ya think?

I feel like I really shouldn't be talking about it...cause it's been such a long time since I've read that part............but, I *think* Moirrane and Lanfear went into some kind of doorway and disappeard together.  I know Lan went through a greiving process like his Warder connection was broken...but my theroy is just that Moirrane and Lanfear are in some alternate world and the Warder connection is just unable to keep its link.  *shrug*  But like I said...I really need to read those parts again to say anything for certain.  *s*

I just got done *listening* (audio-book) to the part in TSR where Mat goes through the ter'angeral doorway to get his three questions answered.  I'm 32 now...I think I was 20 when I read that the last time!  Hahaha...I hardly remember it!  hahaha! This re-read of the series is turning out really fun!

I'm keeping an ear out for any Asmodean news...if I develop a theory I'll post it for sure!

later,
